POSITION: Journey Maintenance Specialist DEPARTMENT: Facilities Maintenance SALARY: $18.05 - $27.88- Hour (Starting salary commensurate with qualifications) OPEN: July 12, 2017 CLOSES: Open until filled JOB SUMMARY: Under the general guidance and direction of the Facilities Management Director, performs and oversees a variety of complex and skilled duties in the maintenance, and preventative maintenance of multiple County facilities and grounds. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES (Any one position does not include all of the duties listed; nor do the listed examples include all duties which may be found in positions of this class). Performs journey level maintenance duties. May be assigned to perform supervisory duties that include the following: interviewing applicants and making hiring recommendations; determining workload and delegating assignments; determining employee training needs and ensuring training needs and-or requirements are met; reviewing and inspecting work for quality, accuracy, and completeness; conducting performance appraisals in compliance with County policies, procedures, and practices; initiating corrective or disciplinary action as directed. Supervises inmate workers and ensures compliance with all security protocols. Maintains the operations of commercial electrical systems (may include security electronic systems, fire alarm system and emergency generator); reviews systems to determine proper operation and provides basic maintenance as necessary. Performs routine and preventative maintenance by performing routine upkeep, remodeling and maintaining County facilities. Maintains the operation of commercial mechanical systems; reviews systems to determine proper operation and provides basic maintenance as necessary. Performs maintenance and-or repairs on the following: commercial heating and air conditioning systems, fire sprinkling system, commercial boiler, water softeners, commercial plumbing, and ground sprinklers and sprinkling systems. Performs electrical maintenance and repair functions in a commercial environment; repairs light fixtures, switches and motors. Teaches employees the concepts and techniques used in a specific service or trade, including adherence to industry and-or safety standards, and maintenance of related equipment, tools and-or supplies. Schedules and conducts inspections; maintains detailed inspection records; prepares reports; performs other related administrative requirements. Manages and coordinates construction projects. Determines appropriate maintenance contractors to address major maintenance concerns; contacts contractor to schedule maintenance or repairs; reviews maintenance bids, agreements or contracts and makes recommendations to the Director. Participates in the planning, designing, construction and maintenance of facilities. Ensures vehicles are maintained in proper working condition; inspects vehicles and schedules repairs and preventive maintenance; promptly reports all vehicle malfunctions or issues to the Director or other administration authority. Responds to maintenance emergencies beyond regular work hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays; performs snow removal during regular business and non- business hours. Assists with landscape maintenance, outdoor lighting, painting, carpentry, and custodial functions. Reads and interprets commercial blueprints, sketches, and schematic diagrams, job orders and various plans as necessary to perform assigned tasks. Ensures adequate supply of materials are readily available. Orders, receives, inspects, and stores equipment, materials, and-or supplies. Operates in a safe manner the following motor vehicles and equipment: forklift, tractor, mule, skid loader, Gravely power broom, hand tools (power and manual).
