This is an important position to the college because all duties performed are visible and contribute greatly to the environment and overall appeal at each campus. Requires moderate physical effort to perform a variety of gardening maintenance duties including: watering grass, flowers, and shrubs, transplant-planting sod, flowers, shrubs, and trees, weeding flower and shrub beds, weeding, litter removal, and general equipment maintenance. Position has a regular schedule but requires flexibility and must be available to work on call for snow removal and sprinkler system emergencies, 24 hours a day 7 days a week, 365 days a year. May direct the work of part time staff. Position will be required to work under various, and sometimes severe, weather conditions ranging from extreme heat and cold, to rain and snow. This position is considered an entry-level groundskeeper position. Essential Responsibilities and Duties -Turf maintenance and equipment maintenance tasks (i.e. mowing, edging and trimming). -Perform regular gardening equipment maintenance. Athletic field maintenance to include: seeding, mowing, and striping soccer and baseball fields. -Maintain irrigation systems for proper water distribution to various landscapes including installation, maintenance and repair (e.g. repairs to valves, pipes, sprinkler heads) at various campuses. -Maintain grounds to include: watering grass, flowers, and shrubs, transplanting-planting sod, flowers, shrubs, and trees, weeding flower and shrub beds, weeding, litter removal, and general equipment maintenance. -Removal of snow and ice on a 24 hour- 365 day on call basis at SLCC campus locations. Areas include parking lots, sidewalks, handicap ramps, roadways. Application of ice melt in designated locations. Operation and maintenance of equipment associated with snow removal job duties. -Sprinkler emergency repair work on a 24 hour 365 day on call bases at SLCC campus locations. Open, complete, and close out work orders in the Sprocket system, enter time worked, and order materials. Other duties as assigned. Essential Responsibilities and Duties Continued Preferred Qualifications Prefer prior exposure to irrigation systems (sprinkler repair) and caring for plants. Commercial Driver License (CDL) helpful, but not required. Herbicide, pesticide application license helpful, but not required. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required. Zero (0) to one (1) years direct, paid, full-time work experience required. Must have a valid Utah driver license to operate some equipment. In addition to regular work schedule, must be available to work on call for snow removal and sprinkler system emergencies 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities -Perform semi-skilled manual labor. -Knowledge of and ability to use turf maintenance equipment (i.e. hand-push-riding mowers, edgers, leaf blowers, weed eaters, & line trimmers, etc.). -Equipment maintenance skills to include the following: proper fueling procedures, cleaning equipment, and ensuring it is in working condition. -Landscape irrigation systems skills to include sprinkler head
