Blanding Campus Heavy Equipment and Trucking Assistant - USU Eastern Blanding Campus POSITION SUMMARY: The successful individual for this position will become a member of the heavy equipment and trucking training programs and will be essential for the dynamics of the programs. This individual will need a wide range of skills that pertain to the safe operations of the USU Blanding Campus Heavy Equipment, and Trucking related programs within the Professional Career and Technical Education department. The individual accepting this position must have excellent written and oral skills with the capabilities of using a computer for record keeping, test scheduling, and other computer related duties. The individual must be able to change duties several times in a day. The individual needs to be safety minded and able to follow instructions with minimum supervision. At times, this individual will be responsible for students driving semi-trucks and operating heavy equipment. This person must be able to assist and tutor students with classroom concepts. RESPONSIBILITIES: Assist with heavy equipment and truck fleet maintenance and record keeping Drive Bus with students Other duties as assigned A description of these duties is generalized as follows: Third Party CDL testing, assist with fleet maintenance, assist with mechanical repairs to the semi-trucks and equipment. This individual will assist student learning in heavy equipment and trucking, organize and account for tools, and other duties assigned by director. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Skills and knowledge to assist with Heavy Equipment, Trucking, and Construction training related duties Class A Commercial Driver's License Must pass a background check and be capable of attaining a 3 rd party CDL Tester Certification in accordance with the State of Utah Department of Public Safety Experience with heavy equipment Exceptional listener and communicator who effectively conveys information verbally and in writing Team player who excels at building trusting relationships with customers and co-workers Dependable, responsible contributor committed to excellence and success Computer skills and be familiar with Microsoft word, excel and outlook Ability to adapt to changing conditions or work assignments Safety-minded and able to follow instructions with minimal supervision PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Doubles and triples, tanker, Hazardous Materials, Passenger Bus and School Bus endorsements Heavy equipment certification from an accredited school-program and experience on the following equipment: front end loader, backhoe, track hoe, dozer, road grader and fork lift General equipment and truck maintenance and assisting with parts inventory tracking and ordering Computer technology skills
